Kohaku padded across the lush emerald blades of the valley. She sighed. Her pack had left her alone, she wandered around, hoping they'd come back, or a new leader would take it back up again.

She felt so lonely, and it seemed to be forbidden for her to be here as her feelings were polar opposites to her surroundings. The lush green grass, the tall waving trees, no vargs were around.

he sighed again, her heart empty, although hopeful, and with that hope, she raised her mug high, and let out a solid note, letting all vargs within the area to kow who she was, and that she was lonely, and wanted to see a familiar face or two.

he lowered her mug when she finished and gazed hopefully at the passing clouds.

The sudden call penetrated the shrubs and trees above Sen's head even where the sun's rays could not. She raised her head as she recognized the source. It was Kohaku, pack mate and friend. A rush of realization flowed through her mind - she had not visited the pack lands for some time. For quite a while now, she had sought solitude among the forests and seemingly barren lands of Alden. The sight of a passing varg was a rare thing in recent times, but Sen did not mind any longer.

Not wanting to leave her friend waiting, Sen rose to her paws, flinching slightly as blood returned to her stiff legs, and trotted out of the grove of trees she had found shelter among. There had been a desolate note to the call, one that made Sen travel even faster. She realized guiltily that she had in fact been neglecting the pack and it was time to stop acting as a loner. She had to make a decision soon. It was sure to be a difficult one.

Her legs traveled automatically for this place was so engraved in her mind that the paths did not need much attention. Within a few minutes, she was there. She spotted the older fae instantly and trotted over to greet her. "Kohaku! How are you?"

"Sen!" Kohaku barked happily and rushed over to her.
"How have you been?" She sniffed her old friend and looked her up and down.
"Sorry I dissapeared for so long." Kohaku sat down on her haunches, the familiar scent of her friend made her feel finally at home.

Sen shook her head sadly. "I've been gone from home for too long as well." She sighed and glanced up at the sky, at the boundless blue sky. In the distance, a hawk soared over the dark treetops. It held her attention as it made its way toward the pair of wolves but it did not cross by overhead. Instead, it wheeled around suddenly and headed into the west, moving quickly, as if it had an important place to be. Sen closed her eyes and wished that she too had an important place to run to, purposeful journey leading to a special destination. But I do, she reminded herself silently.

Her thought was interrupted by her rumbling stomach. She realized it had been several days since she had eaten a proper meal. "Are you hungry, Kohaku? Perhaps we should hunt." She glanced around the area, preparing to howl for the rest of the pack until she recalled how few were left. Probably none of the Hachi wolves were nearby, if any. Well, maybe we will run into them in the search for prey...

Kohaku's stomach growled as well.
"Now that I think about it, I haven't seen a decent deer in a while." She licked her lips at the thought and stood up.
"I hope someone else can join in on our hunt, but I haven't seen any familiar wolves lately." She sighed and twitched her black lobes and swished her tail.

"Neither have I," Sen admitted. But of course, she had been seeking solitude in the seemingly empty parts of the forest. For some time, her only companions had been squirrels and other small critters that usually disappeared quite fast once they spotted her lurking in the shadowy undergrowth. The thought of a hunt with several others gave her mixed feelings now. Part of her wanted to be in the company of her own kind and share in that amazing feeling of being one with them, sharing the same goals and the same accomplishments. The other part of her, the one that had taken hold of her in recent times, wanted to remain in her current state. She knew now that she had to chose between the two; there could be no balance of both in her life.

She nodded to Kohaku and trotted up a nearby hill to a spot where the canopy of the trees were not quite so thick and the blue sky could be clearly seen. She stared for a moment at the few scattered wisps of clouds passing by before raising her head. The note lasted for several moments; the call traveled far in the still air. The howl carried her hopes that another, or several more wolves, would join them in their hunt. Feeling slightly more satisfied, she returned down the hill to where she had left Kohaku standing.

"Well, that is all we can do. That and hope," she said quietly. Her attention now turned to the surrounding area as she began to search for a scent trail. She took her time searching the forest floor in order to give any approaching wolves a chance to find them.

Kohaku followed her old friend, her thick fur swayed with each quick step. She sniffed around, her tail low, but waggin hopefully.

After a while of searching she picked up a scent. a strong scent. two in fact. She lifted her crown and growled excitedly.

'I've picked up two scents." She sniffed again. " A buck and a doe, mates, but the doe isn't pregnant, so we can kill with no regrets, and no angering the spirits." She looked at her friend.

"If we had the pack with us, we'd be able to take on the buck easily, with few injuries, but since it's just us, I don't wanna take the chance of one of us, dying after just meeting in so long." She chuckled. Then sniffed again.

"They're on the move again, let's follow, they're heading east." She nodded to her friend to follow and followed the scents, which were constantly intertwining as the two had changed paths every once in a while. Her stomach growled, and the smell of a fresh animal was making her mouth water, her tail was mid level now, she was no alpha, so she knew not to make other wolves have the wrong idea about her if they saw her, she wanted no trouble. Her tail was wagging now as they neared the two, she knew that when they found them. They'd have to wait for the buck to leave, or if he didn't, one of them would have to kill him, while the other killed the doe, she knew the doe would be easy, but bucks had some serious fight in them, she had seen other wolves die before by trying to fight a buck.

OOC: sorry for the wait!

Sen peered through a screen of grass and shrubs toward the pair of deer, her mouth watering as she studied their movement. She eyed the antlers that were still forming on the buck's head. The velvet hide wrapped each branch of it. It would be a while before he rubbed that part of and the antlers took on a sharper look. Right now his rack appeared fuzzy and soft; however, she knew a strong blow could be struck if the buck felt endangered. His hooves could also cause a problem. It was enough if the female began to kick. They must drive him off somehow.

The sun was high above the wolves and deer, unaware of the struggle of life that was about to take place in the halcyon landscape. In the distance, the shrill call of some bird rent the air but the harsh sound did not cause the deer to glance up. All else was still in the summer heat, which seemed more oppressive as each minute passed. No breeze disturbed the canopy of the trees, and one would have been much welcomed right now. She raised her head slightly and drew in a deep breath. The time to move seemed to have arrived.

In a voice only loud enough for Kohaku to hear, she whispered, "I will drive the buck away. Do your best with the doe and I will try to return quickly to help." In her crouched position, her legs felt spring-loaded. Her muscled tensed and her breathing changed. Her sharpened senses told her this was it, time to move, time to do what she was born to do.

Digging her claws into the ground, she launched herself through the screen of grass and vegetation, she ran with a ground-eating gallop toward her target. The deer were so utterly unaware of the presence of the stalking wolves that for a second or two, they froze in place, becoming breathing statues watching as Death came their way, unable to move. Finally, the prey broke the trance. She watched with wide eyes as the doe chose to run to the right to avoid Sen but stumbled in the process. This stroke of luck would give Kohaku a better chance. But now the doe was out of her range of vision and her focus shifted toward the buck. He had delayed a second longer than the doe and Sen feared for an instant that he would fight when most bucks would flee, leaving their does to their fate. The sound of her heartbeat and her steps pounded in her ears, the scent of deer filled her nose, but the glare of the buck's brown eyes met her own orbs. If the buck did not turn and flee, a few more seconds would bring them face to face, hoof and antler to claw and fang and the confrontation would begin.

Kohaku quickly followed her friend. Her paws dashing back and forth to move her faster than she had in a while, they had seemed to be just blurs. The doe had stumbled, she let out her vocal noises of struggle as she attempted to get up. She then accomplished that feat, but it would do nothing to save her, she took one step, and Kohaku leaped over the doe and landed with a painful thump on her back, she immediately bit the back of the doe's neck, holding on tightly, the doe shouted out her pain, and fell to the ground, squirming under the wolf's body.
Kohaku let go for a second and as the doe realized her neck freedom, she twisted around a bit, Kohaku took advantage of when the doe turned her head around, and bit her on the throat. She struggled for a minute, then became limp.
Kohaku sighed, and lifted up her maw, blood dripping off her fangs. she looked up at her friend facing the buck. she barked at it, hoping to scare it off, but when that didn't work, she waited, knowing what would happen next was up to her friend.

Kohaku's bark, her own heartbeat, a steady rush of her paws, all these sounds clogged her ears. She did not tear her gaze from her target, and her prey did not glance away either. They were locked on each other and only they existed to each other right now in this passing moment.

The sun continued with its glare, an oblivious witness to this stand-off between predator and prey. The fur on the buck's head glistened in the sunlight as he dipped his head slightly, tilting his antlers toward the oncoming wolf. His held this position, a bold statue on the battle field, but only for an instant. In one fluid motion, he raised his head and cast one final look upon his hunter and turned to flee. A white flag, the deer's tail rose behind him as he bounded away, through brush and thorns, to escape the threat.

Sen allowed her gait to come to a steady trot before swinging around to find how Kohaku had done. She was pleased to see the still form of the deer before her friend. She approaching slowly and stopped a few paces away. "That went well," she said with a smile. Her heart was finally slowing down, yet she did her best to hide the fact that she had been close to panic in the last few seconds of the charge.

Kohaku smiled, knowing what her friend did was very brave.

"Yes indeed it did, I'm almost surprised that he wimped out at the last minute, it's either do it before of stand your ground, but, I guess his choice just saved your life in a way." She licked the blood off her lips and looked down at the precious meat below her.

"Shall we duig in?" She asked with a smirk, knowing the answer and began to tear at the doe's flesh, the hot meat steamed up her begging to be eaten.

(Sorry so short, but I'm in a hurry. I'm gonna be gone for a week starting tomorrow and I gotta tell all my other sites that I'll be gone. So let people know that ok? Thanks! See ya then!)
